Abandoned Dreams

b-IML_9487a-I find the carcasses of once-lived in buildings both beautiful and incredibly sad.  It’s like peeking into a well-worn book, seeing the colors, the traces of stairs, the still hanging photos.  I wonder about the families who lived in these buildings – the children who ran up and down the stairs, the older generation who would have lowered a basket down from a window for their onions or other forgotten ingredient rather than hoist themselves up and down the narrow well-worn treads.  Istanbul is littered with these building shells, some of which have been standing neglected for years, others have recently been abandoned as the city ruthlessly modernizes large sections of its historical areas. b-arjen-1026- b-IMQ_5926a-All photographs by delikizinyeri
