The Protectors

I have never seen such a vigilant group of museum guards as I did in St. Peterburg.  These feisty Russian women took their job very seriously.

  1. Yes indeed. You can tell it from the look on their faces. I thought they did not allow taking pictures in the museums there. If that is so I give you more credit for taking your job more seriously than those Russian guards. As always I enjoy watching the pictures you post on the Internet with great admiration and learn something new about photography. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos.

    • Thanks, Yüksel! And welcome back! They did allow photography almost everywhere we went – although no flash. However, I think these women would probably not have allowed photos of themselves if they had known they were being photographed. I do a lot of ‘hip shooting’ when I think I will spoil the moment by lifting the camera or when I think someone will object. Most folks will eventually allow themselves to be photographed, but it ruins the spontaneity and takes a long time to win them over – racing through the museums on a tour I didn’t have the luxury of time.
