I remember studying about Mt. Etna in school and like many other things learned as a child, it stayed in my imagination (along with Iceland, Istanbul, Pompeii, Stonehenge, and a host of other intriguing places). However, I never thought I would actually have the chance to see it! Over a year ago I made my first excursion to Sicily, but Etna was, as she is many days, covered in clouds – as she was in November when I returned again to Sicily. But as the saying goes, the third time was the charm and flying into Catania this spring I could see her dominating the landscape.
And then I was lucky enough to ‘climb’ Etna – via cable car, Arctic cat, and shoe leather….
No matter where I travel in Italy I seem to find discarded roses.
Love gone wrong, perhaps?
I love shooting out of windows – bus or train – especially when it is raining or snowing….
Love wandering through second-hand and flea markets as it’s always amazing to see what ends up on the street for sale – someone’s treasured dresses, a leftover hat, a scary doll….
